E-Meters
This web page provides an overview of E-Meters available in the Freezone.
Since Ron took off, just about everyone, including the Church of Scientology, has taken a stab at improving the E-Meter. Church promo leaves the impression that the latest church meters are the most sensitive and the most accurate for those tricky advanced levels. Freezone experience seems to indicate that generalized advances in electronic componentry has led to generally improved models of what is basically a very simple device. Only two innovations stand out. The computerized read generation and remote student observation used in Church of Scientology training and the histograph display in the Freezone C-Meter. At last count, seven Freezone manufacturers are producing about ten different E-Meter or E-Meter like devices.
Recommendations are as follows:
The C-Meter has the unusual distinction of being far better than its promotional web site. Its most innovative feature is the histograph display that provides a 10 second history of recent meter needle movements. Another feature of use to the solo auditor is the mathematically calculated solo cans adjustment, (the amount of single hand / cans adjustment necessary varies over the 1-6 range of Tone Arm. Another feature that hasn't seen wide use yet is the ability to both record and/or send needle and Tone Arm movement over the Internet to a remote C-Meter.
Ralph Hilton marshals his electronics expertise, and considerable experience working with E-Meter while in the Sea Org, into a MK4 E-Meter that you are encouraged to build for yourself. He also sells them assembled - to the faint of heart.
Of course, if you are just starting out and looking to get your first E-Meter, you could go with a Church of Scientology MK-V E-Meter. About $500. Since on-line ordering is not readily apparent, the simplest approach would be to get in touch with your closest mission bookstore officer and buy it. Some lots of older model MK-V E-Meters used parts that didn't last so well. Buying a used MK-V could mean a costly re-certification. (Or in some cases, refusal to certify and the purchase of a new meter, (my experience)).
"Freesolo Processing" is an adapted Scientology practice, however they do have an excellent write-up on E-Meters in general. The write up and pictures can give you both an overview and a better feel for what is available.
Note: If you are planning to buy a used Church of Scientology E-Meter on eBay, the deal may be cancelled by the Church of Scientology.
