>So has anyone observed personally OT abilities? If so what
exactly?
The best OT abilities for you to observe are your
own.
For example, not that long after I got into Scn, I was out one night
for
a (relatively) quiet drink with friends. I arrived early and
ordered a
drink. The pub was empty apart from one guy sitting at the
bar. He was
reading a newspaper and took no notice of me
whatsoever.
I was musing (chewing!) over the statement in 8-80 that
creating a perfect
duplicate of something would cause it to vanish. I
decided to make a perfect
duplicate of the guy sitting at the bar. He
was gone. Like really gone
- I could see the wall etc behind where he
has been sitting quite clearly.
I nearly spluttered in my beer (I
hadn't really expected it to happen -
I simply didn't put any attention on
the negative and just made this very
light decision - always the sort which
are guaranteed to work). Anyhow,
I decided this was an overt and I
should put him back. He re-appeared.
Something must have happened in the
other guy's space because, having completely
ignored me up to this point, he
looked up from his newspaper and gave me
the most quizzical look I've ever
seen on anyone's face!
Now - back to the best OT abilities to observe are
your own. Do you believe
my story? Well, possibly. We are
all taught not to evaluate or invalidate
after all. But do you really
believe me? Are you convinced? Probably
not.
But what if
the same thing had happened to you! Different story then
isn't
it. You wouldn't need convincing - you'd
know.
